Ketelhuisplein is the beating heart of Dutch Design Week. The central square brings together exhibition pavilions, food and drink outlets, and essential festival services such as restrooms, bike rentals, and backstage areas. For thousands of visitors each day, it serves as a natural meeting point; a place to orient, recharge, and experience design in all its forms. Our task was to give this place structure and atmosphere, while keeping it open and accessible to everyone.

A pavilion that looks both back and forward
At the center of this year’s layout stood a large pavilion, a focal point for the 25th edition of Dutch Design Week. Built from scaffolding material and finished in DDW’s vibrant colours, the structure invites the design community to come together. Embracing both reflection and progress, this year’s theme Past. Present. Possible. looked both back and forward: capturing the stories, ideas, and people that shaped DDW, while inviting visitors to share their own experiences and wishes for what’s next. Across the pavilion’s panels, portraits and stories from the past 25 years were printed, alongside open spaces where new messages and memories could be written throughout the week.

Built to be reused
Designed with a planet-proof mindset, the pavilion and square were built almost entirely from rented and reusable materials. By working with modular scaffolding systems, lightweight structures, and standard rental components, we minimized waste and maximized flexibility.
